As narrated by Geoff the Hare

The trail was severely constrained by the need to accommodate a seminar being given the same evening by the Grand Master of New York HHH at 6.30pm. This was for the edification of the marathoners completing their registrations. The weather forecast was 50% risk of showers in the late evening. The recce was done on the same morning and involved some convoluted access to the Hudson docks at piers 92 to 94, roadways and ramps still under construction. The trail was completed in the afternoon, sky still clear, so chalk only laid in protected places. The GM was taking over the podium from the previous speaker, who had had the pleasure of addressing an audience of one - Ian Cumming.

Back at the start a dozen hashers assembled. The hare had spent some time assisting the homeless set up home on St Bartholomew's church steps. Good practice, a skill that might one day come in useful. The trail was set, more or less straight west to the docks and straight back to 8th Avenue. Simple, short, who could complain? What could go wrong?

It did! The pack was ten minutes on its way when the heavens opened. Oh where oh where was the flour? Taxis were impossible, they were all taken at the Waldorf. So off trudged the hare carrying all the bags, to be met on 6th Avenue by a ministering angel in the form of a lost joint master - Alice. So we shared the load to the Shandon Star, and off she went to find the beer check on the roof of pier 94. It was gone, but most of the pack had found it by some other miracle. We also got a group of hashing marathoners. The success of the evening was that Ian trebled the previous seminar audience. Oh, and hash cash was only $10. Good onon - we stayed till midnight [ed.].
