Ah!, Super Bowl Sunday! Feel it, Live it, Breathe it Deeply (ach, gag/wheeze** make sure you aren't behind a bus!) This is a special day for sports fans.

At some point last week, a woman friend asked me to explain men's obsession with Football. I explained about the struggle for power; the fight to knock your opponent down without getting hurt yourself; the drive to score points and rise victorious. She questioned how I had diverted the topic to the Republicans in Washington... This year's Super Bowl comes at a time when Americans need their attention diverted from the front pages. --- Wait a sec, that's what everyone was saying over the Summer about Mark McGuire. This Presidential affair has really worn-out its welcome! Let's hope some of the Republicans are strong enough to pull their heads out of the warm winter den of Trent Lott's ass and put an end to this impeachment. They tried their best with what little they had, but the trail of evidence was too thin.

"Thin Trails" well describes this week's Hash. Beginning up North at Columbia University (116th & Bway. For any "out-of-towners": Get A Map!), Ed informed us that David had set the trail the previous day. We were assured that the first few marks, at least, were still down, so the pack set off searching. I've never understood the quantum physics behind the hash: Time passes faster, distances seem shorter (especially when I'm laying trail), and people continuously appear out of nowhere. What began as a group of 15 hashers swelled to 20 within 5 minutes... and 25 within 10!

Making our way North by Northwest, we came upon Grant's Tomb and were serenaded by the bells of Riverside Church. This is truly one of the prettiest spots of NYC. Turning South took us into Riverside Park where the trail was lost/found/lost/found every 8th step or so. Finally, Marie found an out-trail heading East and we all left the Park... for one whole block! With no marks in sight, I hooked up with Geoff and Scott, who provided a telling hint: "marks spotted at 102 & Bway". No more need be said, except that no trail was found there.

Knowing the On-In location ahead of time really settles the mind when lost on trail. No longer fearful of a repeat from two weeks ago, we headed East towards Central Park, and found trail a block over. Screaming "On On", we entered Central Park and got lost. The pack soon caught up and we continued across, losing the trail once more (for 10 minutes this time!) before finding it South along the Reservoir. After exiting the Park at 90th, the trail was lost on Park Ave. Not bothering to stop, I kept East, heading for Trisha's apartment at 84th & 1st..., or is it 94th? Uh Oh! Leslie found me wandering and gave me the answer: "Neither, you idiot! Its 87th & York!" Oh,... well,... On In!

As mentioned earlier, the location was no surprise, yet it was FULL of surprises! First there was beer, already tapped; Second, there were *3* kegs of different beer; and Third, there was tons of food! Cheers to Trisha for getting everything done well in her 3rd attempt. However, not being one to tempt fate (who is nasty and vengeful when trifled with), I beat a hasty retreat before the plumbing exploded or the goldfish became rabid. As it turned out, the only 2 odd occurrences of the evening were Atlanta not showing up for their game, and Roy winning the big pool while claiming Hash treasury poverty. I'm sure at least half of the profits found their way into the kitty.

Thanks Ed, David, and, especially Trisha, who hopefully will let us grace her apartment again next year!
